Psychological and Language Development - Essay Example (Kick off Tulsa, 2009). In spite of the fact that the lower part of the cerebrum is all around created during childbirth to help a youngster's underlying endurance, the upper bit isn't. This bit contains a cerebrum structure called the cerebral cortex which is answerable for human properties, for example, memory, consideration, perceptual mindfulness, thought, language, and cognizance. Keynesian Economics

Keynesian financial aspects is the view that in the short run, particularly during downturns, monetary yield is firmly affected by total interest . In the Keynesian view, total interest doesn't really rise to the beneficial limit of the economy; rather, it is impacted by a large group of variables and here and there carries on whimsically, influencing creation, work, and swelling The speculations shaping the premise of Keynesian financial aspects were first introduced by the British market analyst John Maynard Keynes in his book, The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, distributed in 1936, during the Great Depression.Keynes differentiated his way to deal with the total flexibly engaged ‘classical' financial matters that went before his book. The understandings of Keynes that followed are quarrelsome and a few schools of monetary idea guarantee his inheritance. Keynesian market analysts frequently contend that private area choices some of the time lead to wasteful macroeconomic results which require dynamic approach reactions by the open division, specifically, financial arrangement activities by the national bank and monetary strategy activities by the administration, so as to balance out yield over the business cycle.Keynesian financial matters advocates a blended economy †prevalently private segment, however with a job for government mediation during downturns. Keynesian financial matters filled in as the standard monetary model in the created countries during the later piece of the Great Depression, World War II, and the post-war financial extension (1945â€1973), however it lost some impact following the oil stun and coming about stagflation of the 1970s. The appearance of the worldwide money related emergency in 2008 has caused a resurgence in Keynesian idea. OverviewPrior to the distribution of Keynes' General Theory, standard monetary idea was that the economy existed in a condition of general harmony, implying that the economy normally expends whatever it produces in light of the fact that the necessities of shoppers are constantly more noteworthy than the limit of the economy to fulfill those requirements. This recognition is reflected in Say's Law and in the composition of David Ricardo which is that people produce with the goal that they can either devour what they have made or sell their yield so they can purchase another person's output. This discernment settles upon the suspicion that if an excess of products or administrations exists, they would normally drop in cost to where they would be expended. Keynes' hypothesis was huge in light of the fact that it toppled the standard idea of the time and realized a more noteworthy mindfulness that issues, for example, joblessness are not a result of apathy, however the consequence of a basic deficiency in the financial framework. He contended that on the grounds that there was no assurance that the products that people produce would be fulfilled with need, joblessness was a characteristic consequence. He considered the to be as unfit to keep up itself at full business and accepted that it was fundamental for the administration to step in and set under-used reserve funds to work through government spending. Along these lines, as indicated by Keynesian hypothesis, some independently levelheaded microeconomic-level activities, for example, not putting reserve funds in the merchandise and enterprises delivered by the economy, whenever taken all in all by a huge extent of people and firms, can prompt results wherein the economy works beneath its latent capacity yield and development rate.Prior to Keynes, a circumstance wherein total interest for products and ventures didn't meet gracefully was alluded to by old style financial analysts as a general overabundance, in spite of the fact that there was difference among them with respect to whether a general excess was conceivable. Keynes contended that when an overabundance happened, it was th e over-response of makers and the laying off of laborers that prompted a fall sought after and propagated the issue. Keynesians in this way advocate a functioning adjustment strategy to diminish the abundancy of the business cycle, which they rank among the most genuine of monetary problems.According to the hypothesis, government spending can be utilized to build total interest, subsequently expanding financial movement, decreasing joblessness and emptying. Hypothesis Keynes contended that the answer for the Great Depression was to animate the economy (â€Å"inducement to invest†) through a mix of two methodologies: 1. A decrease in financing costs (fiscal arrangement), and 2. Government interest in foundation (financial arrangement). By decreasing the loan fee at which the national bank loans cash to business banks, the administration imparts a sign to business banks that they ought to do likewise for their customers.Investment by government in foundation infuses pay into th e economy by making business opportunity, work and request and turning around the impacts of the previously mentioned awkwardness. Governments source the subsidizing for this use by obtaining assets from the economy through the issue of government bonds, and in light of the fact that administration spending surpasses the measure of assessment pay that the legislature gets, this makes a monetary deficiency. A focal finish of Keynesian financial aspects is that, in certain circumstances, no solid programmed instrument moves yield and work towards full business levels. This end clashes with monetary methodologies that accept a solid general inclination towards balance. In the ‘neoclassical union', which consolidates Keynesian full scale ideas with a miniaturized scale establishment, the states of general harmony take into consideration value acclimation to in the long run accomplish this objective. All the more comprehensively, Keynes considered his to be as a general hypothesis, in which usage of assets could be high or low, though past financial aspects concentrated on the specific instance of full utilization. The new traditional macroeconomics development, which started in the late 1960s and mid 1970s, scrutinized Keynesian speculations, while New Keynesian financial aspects has tried to put together Keynes' thoughts with respect to progressively thorough hypothetical establishments. A few translations of Keynes have underscored his weight on the global coordination of Keynesian strategies, the requirement for universal monetary foundations, and the manners by which financial powers could prompt war or could advance harmony. Idea Wages and spending During the Great Depression, the traditional hypothesis credited mass joblessness to high and inflexible genuine wages. To Keynes, the assurance of wages is increasingly convoluted. To begin with, he contended that it isn't genuine however ostensible wages that are set in arrangements among bosses and laborers, rather than a trade relationship. Second, ostensible pay slices would be hard to place into impact due to laws and compensation contracts. Indeed, even old style financial specialists conceded that these exist; in contrast to Keynes, they upheld abrogating least wages, associations, and long haul contracts, expanding work advertise adaptability. Nonetheless, to Keynes, individuals will oppose ostensible pay decreases, even without associations, until they see different wages falling and a general fall of prices.Keynes dismissed that cutting wages would fix downturns. He analyzed the clarifications for this thought and discovered them all defective. He additionally thought about the most probable results of cutting wages in downturns, under different various conditions. He inferred that such compensation slicing would be bound to aggravate downturns instead of better. Further, if wages and costs were falling, individuals would begin to anticipate that them should fall. This could mak e the economy winding descending as the individuals who had cash would just hold up as falling costs made it increasingly significant †as opposed to spending. As Irving Fisher contended in 1933, in his Debt-Deflation Theory of Great Depressions, flattening (falling costs) can make a downturn more profound as falling costs and wages made previous ostensible obligations progressively important in genuine terms. Over the top sparing To Keynes, exorbitant sparing, I. e. sparing past arranged venture, was a difficult issue, empowering downturn or even misery. Extreme sparing outcomes if speculation falls, maybe because of falling buyer request, over-interest in prior years, or cynical business desires, and if sparing doesn't quickly fall in sync, the economy would decline. The old style financial experts contended that loan fees would fall because of the overabundance flexibly of â€Å"loanable funds†. The main chart, adjusted from the main diagram in The General Theory, shows this procedure. (For effortlessness, different wellsprings of the interest for or flexibly of assets are overlooked here. ) Assume that fixed interest in capital merchandise tumbles from â€Å"old I† to â€Å"new I† (stage a). Second (step b), the subsequent abundance of sparing causes financing cost cuts, canceling the overabundance flexibly: so again we have sparing (S) equivalent to venture. The loan fee (I) fall forestalls that of creation and employment.Keynes had a mind boggling contention against this free enterprise reaction. The diagram underneath sums up his contention, expecting again that fixed speculation falls (stage A). To start with, sparing doesn't fall much as loan fees fall, since the salary and replacement effectsof falling rates go in clashing ways. Second, since arranged fixed interest in plant and gear depends generally on long haul desires for future gainfulness, that spending doesn't rise much as loan fees fall. So S and I are drawn as steep (i nelastic) in the graph.Given the inelasticity of both interest and flexibly, a huge financing cost fall is expected to close the sparing/speculation hole. As drawn, this requires a negative financing cost at balance (where the new I line would meet the old S line). Be that as it may, this negative loan fee isn't important to Keynes' contention. Third, Keynes contended that sparing and speculation are not the principle determinants of financing costs, particularly in the short run. Rather, the gracefully of and the interest for the supply of cash decide loan costs in the short run. (This isn't attracted the graph.)Neither changes rapidly because of unreasonable sparing to allo

One current version is the Instagram “teatox craze,” which is a nutrition and cleansing program that involves drinking special teas that often contain ingredients that sound harmless but are not. These teas, which are heavily marketed on Instagram, are particularly seductive to individuals with eating disorders who may be easily susceptible to their marketing claims and may abuse them. Instagram is replete with brands of such “slimming” or “skinny” teas hawked by Instagram celebrities. The teas claim to offer help with weight loss, fat burning, increased energy, reduced bloating, and detoxification. However, there is no published research to support these claims. According to one former tea user, “many of the posts include popular Instagram makeup artists, models, and fitness stars posing with their tea -- these are almost always paid sponsorships, especially if they are promoting their own discount code.” Senna as the Active Ingredient A common regimen is a diuretic tea in the morning and a laxative tea in the evening. The active ingredient in most of the laxative teas is senna, a powerful herb that stimulates the bowels and causes a laxative effect. As with all laxative use, any weight loss produced from using these teas is usually due to the body fluids lost when senna activates the colon. Once more food is ingested, the weight is typically regained. Teas Are Unregulated Because they are herbal teas, they are often perceived as benign. However, like most other dietary supplements, the herbal teas are unregulated and can be dangerous. Side effects from use can include headaches, nausea, abdominal cramping, dizziness, and dehydration. Furthermore, when taken in large doses or longer than recommended, they can have additional adverse effects. According to the US National Institutes of Health, longer use of senna can cause the bowels to stop functioning normally and might cause dependence on laxatives. Chronic abuse may be associated with serious manifestations, including fluid and electrolyte loss, liver and kidney damage, heart disease, and colon damage. Laxative Abuse Social media has the ability to potentiate the spread of such remedies, glamorizing them, hyping supposed benefits and omitting the context of the dangers they pose. An article on Fader describes Instagram as “a booming hotbed for snake oil of all kinds. The people I’ve spotted selling tea also promote other dubious products, like waist trainers and designer knockoff shoes. They do this for money, and, for upstart brands,  it works.”  Said a former teatox user,   “The teas certainly mean well, but like I said, its probably the first taste of laxative use for many women trying to ‘lose weight.’ [It is a] slippery slope, and I often wonder how many of these sponsors actually use the teas. Its very easy to develop an emotional/psychological dependence on these ‘teatoxes,’ especially if youre prone to disordered eating. While instructions may say to use the cleanse tea every other night and to steep it for only a particular amount of time, the seductive feeling of a flat stomach in the morning can drive you to ignore those instructions and use it nightly with a stronger tea. Whats more, I had periods where I felt I couldnt go on a trip or attend a big event unless I used the cleanse tea beforehand. It became an anxiety reliever, even though it was making me feel sick. I didnt feel I was at my ‘best’ unless I used a teatox to drop as much water and physical weight as I could.”   Laxative abuse among the general population occurs in four percent of the general population. The percentage of patients with bulimia nervosa who report laxative abuse ranges from 18% to 75%. Research shows that individuals with anorexia nervosa, binge-eating/purging type, and other specified feeding and eating disorder also often abuse laxatives. Use of teatox is merely laxative abuse by another name.

The Secretary Of Defense And The Chairman Of The Joint...

The Secretary of Defense and The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced in January of 2013 the rescission of the 1994 Direct Ground Combat Definition and Assignment Rule (DGCDAR). The DGCDAR restricted assignments of women to communities or jobs within the military in or collocated with direct ground combat units below the brigade level, in long-range reconnaissance and special operations forces, and in positions involving physically demanding tasks. This now correlates to the opening of previously closed occupations, to include the USMC infantry, to women who can meet occupation-specific, gender-neutral standards of performance. 230,000 positions that were previously unavailable in the U.S. armed forces to women are now available. From active-duty, to veterans, to civilians alike, one thing we’ve heard is the reluctance of many to publicly oppose the idea. This reluctance stems from a fear of being tarred-and-feathered â€Å"politically incorrect, a term appare ntly as morally reprehensible as crime nowadays. The big worry stems from an idea about the degeneration of the combat community structure. So, with that in mind, let s suppose that women are granted full entry and that the requirements for men and women are exactly the same. I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen And Everyday Use By...

The two short stories, â€Å"I Stand Here Ironing† by Tillie Olsen and â€Å"Everyday Use† by Alice Walker shows two mothers being concerned about one of their daughter and question how their daughters have turned out to be. The authors show this by using multiple symbols to convey the families’ relationship. By this, the authors use the iron, quilt, and clock all to connect how each symbol shows a significant meaning in the family. In â€Å"I Stand Here Ironing,† Olsen conveys the symbolic meaning of an iron, which connects to Walker’s symbolism for the quilt in â€Å"Everyday Use.† Both these objects are ironically associated with a mother in general. Furthermore, in these short stories, Olsen represents the iron as a mother’s ability to smooth out the wrinkles in her daughter’s life. By this, the mother states, â€Å"I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron†. In other words, she throws all her painful emotions and guilty of not being a mother to her daughter Emily into the iron. In addition, the iron tries to destroy these emotions that are a representation as â€Å"wrinkles†. Also, as the narrator is ironing back and forth, the action is used as a flashback as where she went wrong in raising Emily. Similarly, Walker shows how ironically a quilt is like a mother, in where both share a legacy and are also used fo r comfort. Making The Best of Your High School Career †English Essay

Making The Best of Your High School Career – English Essay Free Online Research Papers Making The Best of Your High School Career English Essay The speech from my freshman orientation into high school still rings clear in my head. â€Å"Get involved, get involved, get involved† was the senior class president’s motto for his speech to us that day. With each word he spoke, I knew that in order to make the best of my high school career, I needed to do what he said and â€Å"get involved†. Though budget cuts may be necessary, you as a school board should reconsider the options available for elimination or restriction. Extracurricular activities and programs in drama, music, or art are essential parts of a high school education. Studies have shown that children involved in â€Å"fine arts† such as choir, band, or theater, do significantly better in school than those who don’t participate. Being involved in those activities is more beneficial than just learning the notes or becoming a good flute player, they teach you life long skills. Looking back into my experience in my high school show choir, I learned the most valuable skill of all; I learned about myself. I realized what it means to be a leader, and what it means to be involved in a group. I learned how important it was to consider the group’s best interest, instead of your own. I learned how to stand up for myself, how to stick to what I believe in, and how to be a role model. Show choir was never just about singing. It was about life. If I would have never had that experience, I would not be as mature and well rounded as I am today. These programs are crucial in a teen’s development, and will help them to grow into the person they need to become. Another factor to consider is the necessity of extracurricular activities. Whether it is football, chess club, or National Honors Society, there is an activity for every type of person. Teenagers’ main struggle in high school is fitting in, or feeling like they belong somewhere. Taking away such activities can destroy someone’s self-esteem, or take away that feeling of pride and accomplishment. Their schoolwork will suffer because they feel there is no point in succeeding. Studies have also shown that involvement in extracurricular activities boosts students’ performance in the classroom. The activities teach you about determination, and about meeting the goal or deadline. They help you manage your time better, so you complete the assignment on time without procrastinating. If these programs are eliminated, motivation and success will disappear along with them. Taking away such vital activities and programs does more harm than good. There are other ways to decrease budget than to destroy life-changing skills. Paying an extra fifty cents for lunch makes all the difference in the world if it means kids can still be involved in these programs. You as a school board must realize what will be missing in their lives if they aren’t given the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. Let them â€Å"get involved, get involved, get involved†. That senior class president’s words made an impact in my life; I would hate to make him change his speech. The Writing Process Is a Numbers Game

The Writing Process Is a Numbers Game The Writing Process Is a Numbers Game The Writing Process Is a Numbers Game By Guest Author You would think that it would be a words game, but it’s not. It’s all about numbers. We’ve all seen different definitions of the writing process. One thing they all have in common, though, is that they begin with ideas and end with words on paper (or screen). While the normal stages: prewriting, writing, revising, editing, and publishing are important and should be followed, there is one topic that is generally not discussed. Numbers. Michelangelo said, â€Å"every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.† Take a moment to focus on that image. Writing is the same process, with one caveat. As the writer, you must first create the block of stone. Only then will you be able to see the statue waiting to be released. How does one create the block of stone? Well, at the risk of sounding glib, just write. A successful piece of writing requires two ingredients: time and words. That may sound trivial, but it is more important than it seems. Editing and revising are the most important steps of the process. Sure, drafting is what everyone thinks about, but the magic of the process happens during the editing and revising. I wrote an as of yet unpublished novel. My most current draft clocks in around 50,000 words (the lowest word count for a work of prose to be classified a novel). I’ve been working on it for over two years, using it to earn an MFA in creative writing. To reach the 50,000 words of my draft I wrote, over the course of two years, over 200,000. When I shared this information with my advisor, she responded: â€Å"Yeah, that’s about right.† If you are bogged down with a writing project, creative or academic, there is only one way to advance the project. Write words, lots of them. And then go back. This article is clocking in around 500 words. To write it, this being my final draft, I have written around 1000. Words and time. Those are the two secret ingredients everyone is searching for. It’s the key to winning the numbers game. Words and time. What are you waiting for? C. Controversy of Pre-natal Diagnosing Research Paper

Controversy of Pre-natal Diagnosing - Research Paper Example According to medical professionals, policymakers and other interest groups, prenatal testing provide parents the choice of therapeutic abortion freeing them from reproductive risk by preempting the birh of a child with a genetic disease thus liberating them from the financial and emotional burden and distress that the child and the family may experience from â€Å"interpersonal, intrafamilial and intergenerational relations† (Ekberg, 2007, 67). The idea was to detect fetal defect and to give expectant mothers â€Å"choices† if possible abnormality in the fetus is detected. While this may seem to be a medical breakthrough of giving expectant mothers advance information about the health and well being of their upcoming babies, this has however raised a number of disturbing issues. Rather than focusing more on the health and well being of both the babies and the mother, the issue redounded to a cold hearted cost benefit assessment that it will be more cost efficient to â⠂¬Å"terminate a birth† than to spend for the care of a disabled child. ... It also assumes that a fetus which has been diagnosed with abnormality through prenatal diagnosing will have no chance to live a productive, meaningful and rewarding life. It immediately passed a judgment that a child with disability will become an automatic liability to the family and society without a chance to recover nor to live a meaningful life. It is an assumption that is based on the impression on what is probable without inquiring on the state and well-being of the disabled child and his/her families. It also reinforces an intolerant society that discriminates against a trait and persons that does not fit to what the generally constructed concept of normalcy in society. Where before parents had control as to the quantity of childbirth, now it seeks control as to the quality of a child by terminating the birth of a fetus that may have potential defects. It is an impression that is misinformed because when studies were made â€Å"on children and families affected by disabilit ies indicated that disability does not preclude a satisfying life (Asch, 1999, 1649). Further, in a study conducted in 1995 revealed that a child’s disability did not affect the lives of their families and the needs and concerns of those family with disabled child were strikingly similar compared to a family with a normal child. What was distinguishable was only the complexity of the arrangement that is needed to balance the responsibilities at work and home (qtd. in Freedman et al, 1995) , Asch furtherly articulated that â€Å"these professions fail people with disabilities, by concluding that because there may never be full physical recovery, there is never a regrouping of physical, cognitive, and psychological resources with which to participate in a rewarding life (Asch, 1999, 1650).

We Should Send Our Parents To Retirement Homes

We Should Send Our Parents To Retirement Homes In ancient time, filial piety is regarded as one of the virtues to be held above all else: a respect for the parents and ancestors, which means to be good to ones parents, to take care of ones parents and be definitely obedient to their parents in any case and do whatever their parents require. Parents have the supreme control over their children in traditional family. Filial piety has long been the virtue of the Chinese people. As time goes by, things have changed a lot. Parents power has weakened a lot. Recently the article Dear Son Mother Wants To Be A Dog in Your Home was widely spread among netizens in Q-zones, blogs and forums (na.2010). When I first read this article, I could not withdraw my tears. I believe anyone with conscience who has read it will be deeply moved and feels sorrow for the old women. It is high time that we considered the old-age support in our country. I think we should send our parents to retirement homes in the future. I divide my argumentation into two parts. The first part is about people in rural areas and the second part is about people in city. Part I Point 1 According to Wang (2008), The traditional family structure has collapsed and is replaced by one-child family pattern'(P.28). As the number of children reduce , the old-age support situation becomes more serious for the rural people. It is predicted that in the future every young people has two to four old people to support (Qin,J,2009,P32). It can be extremely difficult for these rural people with low incomes to sustain so many old. In order to relieve the pressure, it will be a good choice to send old people to the nursing home to pass their old age. Besides, it is also the governments responsibility to plan the budget for old-age support to help those poor young people. Thus, we can at least guarantee the old peoples basic living needs if we send our parents to a retirement home. We get someone to take care of them in the nursing home. When they are hungry, they have something to eat. When it is too cold or too hot, they have clothes to wear. When it rains or heats, they have room s to shelter. When they are ill, they can turn to the doctor in time. The most important thing is that they can turn to someone to help when an emergency happens. In this way, the tragedy like Dear Son Mother Wants To Be A Dog in Your Home will never happen again. Point 2 In rural areas, the necessity to send parents to a nursing home seems greater since old people in the countryside lead a much more difficult life than city people. Old people are often ignored or maltreated by their children in rural areas because they can not earn any money or work any more. Much of the family income is spent on the young children while very little even no money on the old people. According to Fan (2010) There is a shocking fact that the elderly suicide in rural areas are among the highest reported in any country in mainland China(P.84). It can not be denied that the rural elderly suicide has much to do with the ignorance and maltreatment of old people. To many old people, they had to stand the ill-treatment. Because they beileve domestic shame should not be made public. So to send old people to a retirement home can be a good way to protect their rights. Point 3 Another reason for sending rural old people to nursing home is that they can meet, play with people of the same age and feel less lonely. Nowadays young people go to work in downtown and bring their children together. They are busy with their work and seldom return home to see their parents. Many old people suffer from loneliness most of the time at home. So why not send the parents to a retirement home? In the retirement home, they can express and share opinions with other old people. It can be much convenient for them to play chess, mah-jong and do sports together. Part II Point 1 Like rural old people, those who live in the city slao suffer from loneliness. As Cai (2009) has pointed out that China is still a developing country, the advanced population aging has declined the economy development and caused further challenge to the under-funded pension system(P54). To be a 1980s generation, we are under great stress. In order to survive in the city, we have to work hard to pay off home loan, car loan, pay for food, drinks, clothes, water bill, electric charge childrens education and old-age support. We are busy with our work. We eat fast food, work extra hours come and go in a hurry. Life in the city is busy. Things changes rapidly. Little do we have time to spend with our family. Â Point 2 The generation gaps between children and parents, grandchildren and grandparents are wide. Old people often find it difficult to catch up with the time, their children and grandchildren. For example, young children may find it interesting to search the Internet and play on-line games at home on weekends while the old people would like to go out to chat with some acquaints. Â Its obvious that there are a lot of differences between old people and young people, such as their appetites, interests and values. These differences have caused much inconvenience for old people to live with children. Many old people in city suffer alienation and loneliness. It can be wise to send parents to a retirement home where they can find people of similar interest and hobbies. As people in the city generally worry little about their basic necessities, all they want is a light heart. With people of the common language, they can confide to each other, get rid of worry, feel understood and more valued. Point 3 Besides, the housing price continues to be high. It can be a great burdon for young people to purchase a larger house with special rooms provided for old people. As Luo Jiang (2009) state that the average housing space is only 7.1 squaremeters in the city (P50). The intense housing shortage has become a common and outstanding issue. In this background, it can not be a better choice than to send parents to nursing home. Objection However, some people may argue that it is not in accordance with filial piety to send our parents to retirement homes. It may sound unreasonable if one just sees the superficial and doesnt go deeper. However, imagine that you leave your old parents helpless in the rural areas, will you be guilt? So why not send your parents to the downtown retirement home? It isnt it nice for them to be in a convenient place which may be closer to where you work? Just think about leaving your parents with no one to talk to in the box house and getting old gloomily, do you feel sorry for them? So why not bring changes to it and send your parents to the retirement home where they can find some companions and live a more meaningful life? The most important reason is that old people should learn to be independent. As Russell(n.d.) wrote: A successful old age is easiest for those who have strong impersonal interests involving appropriate activities. And the best way to overcome death is to make ones interests gradually wider and more impersonal, until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede, and ones life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life.(P93) As Russell has pointed out that its important for old people to guard against clinging too much to youth in the hope of sucking vigor from its vitality. The nursing home can be a good place for old people to develop their own personal interests involving appropriate activities. Only when old people have strong wills can they enjoy a happy life no matter what difficulties they are faced with. Conclusion Because we are busy making money to support the family and dont have time to take of them, and the unevitable differences between old people and young generation, and the high housing price and the unability to both buy houses and support the old, we have to send our parents to a retirement home in the future. This is not to say that sending our parents to the retirement home is the whole thing. Filial piety includes much more details, such as we can pay visits to them as often as possible, celebrate important fesitivals with them, call them when we can not come to see them. Its very important to give them spiritual support and comfort. If possible, we can take them to travel together. Above all ,its up to our parents whether to go to the nursing homes or not. We can not force our parents to go. Its very important that we communicate with our parents in time and we should let them understand our decisions. In the future, the nursing home may be constructed as pleasant as kindergartens so that we can send our parents there in the day and pick them as well as our children up at night. Of course, we need the governments large financial support to built quality retirement homes.

Interview With Teacher Essay

I interviewed a teacher, Mr. Sameulson, from Stallings Island Middle School. He taught me a lot about his field through our interview in which we covered in the following: his background that prepared him to be the teacher he is today, how he educates students with disabilities, how common instructional accommodations help students, the goals that develop student academic independence and self-advocacy, the research-validated interventions Stallings Island Middle School offers, and how he feels about being adequately prepared for his teaching program. Running Head: INTERVIEW WITH A TEACHER, MR. SAMEULSON 3. I interviewed my mentor teacher Beau Samuelson, who is the resource room teacher for Math, Science, and Social Studies at Stallings Island Middle School. During my interview with Mr. Samuelson, I found out that he had a passion to educate children about sail boating that he wanted to educate other children with their academics. I learned a lot about Mr. Samuelson and his field through our interview in which we covered in the following: his background that prepared him to be the teacher he is today, how he educates students with disabilities, how common instructional accommodations help students, the goals that develop student academic  independence and self-advocacy, the research-validated interventions Stallings Island Middle School offers, and how he feels about being adequately prepared for his teaching program. Mr. Samuelson currently is 33 years old. He went to school for engineering but later realized that this career was not the life for him. He went to Augusta State University to get his Bachelor’s Degree in special education. On his degree he told me he got to pick certain disabilities to be qualified in. He said, â€Å"I picked inter-related. I do not work with severe special education kids but I am certified to. † Mr. Samuelson informed me he is also certified in mind- set-training, which is a nonviolent crisis intervention, to restrain children. He is allowed to work with children with Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI). CPI is a safe environment for children with disruptive and bad behavior. He also works with children with severe Emotional Behavior Disorder (EBD). Children with EBD may cause harm to themselves and others. His aunt noticed that he enjoyed youth sailboat racing. He found out he wanted to work with children when he was a part of a sailboat racing company and he helped educate children about sailing. He had a passion for teaching kids. He said, â€Å"I love helping educate these kid. I am happy to help a child in a learning process with sailboats or academics. † His passion for racing sailboats helped him decide to go to school for special education. His aunt got him a paraprofessional job. This helped Running Head: INTERVIEW WITH A TEACHER, MR. SAMEULSON 4 him get hands-on experience with children with disabilities. He went to school for a total of nine years. He also has a teaching degree in Social Studies and Math. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"I am highly qualified for high school Math. I taught enough course work, so I got certified in it. † He has taught a total of 15 years: three-years at Westside High school, one-year at Murphy Middle School, six-years at Riverside Middle School, and five-years at Stallings Middle School. Educating students with disabilities is different from their typical peers, because they fall in the cracks. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"They usually are not on grade level so teachers have to have these kids on grade level by eight grades. † These kids typically fall in the gaps. These children need a lot of one-on-one time together. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"Intervention programs are appropriate here. † Also there are extra accommodations that help children in the special education program. There are many extra accommodations to help special education students. Mr. Samuelson teaches a class in the morning called Achievement Period Offered (AO). There are also Academic Electives (AE) during the middle of the day. In Academic Elective Mr. Samuelson told me that in the intervention programs that take place organized teaching occurs; teachers teach study skills, how to prepare for assessments, and give a copy of the notes with blanks. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"There is one-on-one time and tests read to students. † These accommodations help students so they do not fail the classes they are behind in. There is a plan of a range of goals to help develop student academic independence and self-advocacy. The school looks at every student three years process. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"Resource classrooms goal is to get these students into co-taught classes. † These students seemed too developed on their weaknesses. Mr. Samuelson, â€Å"It is a struggle to get kids over learned helplessness, because they will fight that they need help. † This academic independence will gradually reduce overtime. These students get time-in-half to take a test. Mr. Samuelson Running Head: INTERVIEW WITH A TEACHER, MR. SAMEULSON 5 said, â€Å"In reality these kids will not get a time in a half to do their work outside of school. † He feels like this is such a disadvantage with these children. Research has proven that children with disabilities struggle in many academic fields and need a different way to learn the material. There is reading and math research-validated interventions used with struggling students and with disabilities. The reading intervention helps students learn to read naturally. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"This is all done by research. † The program where students read naturally works on fluency, compression, and spelling. The Math intervention focuses on number world, transition mathematics, and elevation of mathematics. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"These are great intervention programs to help these struggling children with disabilities. † These programs and Mr. Samuelson have helped these students with disabilities accomplish through their struggles with set goals. Mr. Samuelson believes his educational background has prepared him adequately in his  teacher education program to adequately meet the demands of the classroom on a daily basis. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"Every county is different by helping teachers with their procedures to teaching. † It is important to know how to accommodate children with disabilities. He believes he is blessed working under a good principle, because his principle helps teachers that need it. The principle is not scared to ask teachers for advice, and he has a great bond with his teachers as well. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"He has resources from other teachers if he needs them and he has a good foundation. Augusta State University cannot prepare you for this in a four-year period to be an individual teacher. † He believes his paraprofessional job helped him with hands on learning with children with or without disabilities. Observing in the schools throughout college helped him become the teacher he is today. Mr. Samuelson said, â€Å"Augusta State taught me how to be flexible and roll with changes kind of teacher. † For instance, he has to be able to be a co-teacher Running Head: INTERVIEW WITH A TEACHER, MR. SAMEULSON 6 or teach a resource room as well as a full-time Math teacher for the semester. He informed me when a teacher signs a contract this is what it entitles a special education teacher, too. I have learned a lot about Mr. Samuelson’s life and how Stalling Island Middle school is a welcoming environment for children with or without disabilities. It has a lot of advantages for children with disabilities because it offers a lot of co-teaching, resource rooms, one-on-one time, and it has specific classrooms for students with severe disabilities. The curriculum for students with disabilities has to be flexible and meet the needs for children with disabilities and children without.

Corporate Social Responsibility Marks Spencer

Corporate social responsibility, also known as CSR, is one of the most important topics in the corporate world. If a company is not public about its CSR mission or report, it could make consumers think that they do not care about them, their community or their environment. If a company does not demonstrate that have a positive view on CSR, then they could end up losing profitability because consumers will not want to support them, which could cause the company to close. These closings could be caused by multiple things, including competition from other companies that show they have strong understanding of corporate social responsibility. Marks Spencer, also known as MS, was established in 1884 as a local store in the UK. â€Å"As it grew, staying close to the community was important to its founders and by the 1930s the name Marks Spencer was synonymous with trust, quality, and significantly as an employer who looked after its employees, going beyond the minimum standards for w ages, benefits and care† (Richardson, 2015). For years, Marks Spencer were known for taking care of their employees, customers, and community but as times changed in the world, corporate America changed along with it. â€Å"There comes a time when other competitors copy and look for advantage, and this was the case for MS as other UK retailers assumed the leadership of the sector it once regarded as its own natural territory† (Richardson, 2015). William Shakespeares Macbeth At the beginning of the play, before Macbeth is introduced, the impression given is that he is a very good man indeed. It is as if he was a local hero and could do no wrong. The sergeant refers to him as brave Macbeth and Duncan says O valiant cousin! Worthy gentleman! Duncan, the king, rewards Macbeth with the title, thane of Cawder, and the previous, treacherous thane having been sentenced to death. Macbeth has gone from being a hero who was respected by the king to being rewarded by the king with a new title, Thane of Cawder, to now considering murder of the king. The Witches have created such an evil in his head that has conjured this will for the throne, which has grown and grown to this point where he considers murder. However I think that lady Macbeth plays a vital role at this point, she wills Macbeth to kill Duncan, showing her own evil side. Macbeth is in an uneasy state and Lady Macbeth takes advantage of it; eventually the consequences are inevitable. However, Lady Macbeth is spurring on the evil side of him that makes him king sooner rather than later but by murder. When Lady Macbeth hears of what the witches had said to Macbeth she asks him to take her assets and strip her of all her goodness. Organisations which out-perform their competitors do so because they apply a coherent set of people management and development practices appropriate to their needs. Successful organisations are increasingly those which have a constructive relationship with employees and a management approach which enables them to develop and draw on the full potential of their people. Considerable improvements have been made to the practice of employment relations in recent years. People are working hard and enjoy going to work. They want to learn. However, while the damaging effects of poor relations have been radically reduced, many organisations are failing to secure the positive benefits that are available from improving them. Economic pressures dictate that organisations will change more frequently than in the past. Technology and the demand for customised services are shifting managerial focus towards knowledge management and people as their key differentiators. This will require substantial changes in the understanding and behaviour of the people who work in organisations. Employees will need to extend their skills and use them more effectively. But change initiatives often fail to deliver the results expected of them, largely because people issues have been neglected or not fully thought through. The test of employment relationships in the future will be their effect on managing change and eliciting employees’ willing contribution. 2. EVOLUTION OF EMPLOYEE RELATIONS From the beginning of organized work activity when first one person directed the work of others, the subject of industrial relations Until the end of the 1970s, the acceptance of adversarial industrial relations, and therefore the need to resolve conflict, as being the natural order led both management and unions to from develop collective bargaining to a fine art. At the end of the 1970s, the employee relations entered into a new era. Disorderly collective bargaining played its part in bringing down the elected government and marked the start of a new era during which much of the legislation underpinning trade union influence was removed and replaced by new legislation limiting the scope for damaging industrial action. Instead, a growing coalition of interests aimed at the maintenance of industrial peace and price stability in the context of substantial inward investment resulted in their making social partnership work at the national level. Similarly, in other major countries in Europe, social partnership at national level did not break down in the way in which it did in the UK. There is no doubt that attitudes to work and relationships at work have changed since the year 1970s. The driving force for much change has been economic and the agenda has been framed by managers. Working patterns and practices have become more flexible and managers are using people more effectively. The term ‘Employee Relations’ was conceived as a replacement for the term ‘Industrial Relations’. Industrial relations is generally understood to refer the relationship between employers and employees collectively. The decline of industrial relations can be measured on number of different dimensions. From peak of some 12 million plus union memberships has fallen to around 7 million today. Between 1980 and 2000, the coverage of collective agreements contracted from over three-quarters to under a third of employed workforce. At the same time, the range of issues over which bargaining took place decreased massively. The content of collective bargaining has been reflected in a dramatic reduction in industrial actions since 1980. 3. IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON EMPLOYEE RELATIONS While there is widespread agreement that changes in the international economy associated with globalisation have important consequences for employment relations, there are fewer consensuses about their nature and significance. One view is that globalization has created pressures for convergence between different countries in regard to employment relations. Another is that national level institutions play a mediating role in maintaining cross-national differences, leading to divergence. A third school rejects the convergence/divergence dichotomy and argues that complex interactions between global and national (or local) forces shape employment relations outcomes. 4. CHALLENGES IN 21ST CENTURY Customers have become more demanding. They want increasingly high quality service and they want to know that the latest technology at the lowest price is available. The achievement of business goals and financial returns is increasingly depend on delivery by organizations employees, where the employee relations play major role. The communication is the glue that makes policies real when they are ineffective. Two-way communication in employee relations is highly necessary in today’s situations. Getting communication right involves both professionalism and persistence. The qualities required include focusing on positive behaviours and outcomes, taking a positive problem solving approach, anticipating problems, recommending solutions and being able to offer sound advice to senior management on implementations. The ability to manage conflict remains a key issue for many organizations. Mediations as a method or technique of resolving work place issues represents an important shift from the traditional industrial relations framework, with its emphasis on formal discipline and grievance procedures, towards more of a ‘win-win’ approach consisted with the philosophy of human resources management. Commitment and employee engagement are crucial to performance but they are not consistently high enough in HR- priorities. The employee information and consultation are helpful in raising the profile of employee voice and involvement. More effort need to be put into training and supporting employees to achieve their job objectives. As examples, team-working and change management as the basis off establishing and maintaining motivation and commitment, is among one of critical role of employee relations managers these days. 5. CONCLUSION Employee relation is maintaining employee – employer relationship that contributing to satisfactory productivity, motivating employees and ensuring healthy employee morale. The most successful organisations are those which have constructive relationships with employees and a management approach which enables them to develop and draw on the full potential of their people. Considerable improvements have been made to the practice of employment relations in recent years. People are working hard and enjoy going to work. They want to learn. However, while the damaging effects of poor relations have been radically reduced, many organisations are failing to secure the positive benefits that are available from improving them. The Effects of Immigration-Free-Samples for Students-Myassignment

Question: Discuss about the Effects of Immigration on New Zealands Economy. Answer: Immigration has a number of effects to the economy of any country leave alone that of New Zealand. Immigration can result to the economic drain in many cases and there are recorded few cases where immigration has resulted to the economic boost. Such cases happen rarely in some countries and mostly recorded in the developing nations. It is worth noting that due to the ever increasing population in New Zealand, the country is experiencing an economic boost courtesy of a number of factors that are contributed by the bulge in the population (Alesina et al, 2016).The growth in the economic sector due the population increase has seen the nation record a 0.7 increment in the Gross Domestic Product in the last quarter of 2016 bringing the overall national growth in the national product to 2.9%. The high record of immigration has seen the nation rise up in the primary sector investment by a considerable margin of 5.4% in the first quarter of the fiscal year of 2017. New Zealand has experience d an upsurge in the demand patterns for the commodities as the incoming population has always created room for more commodities. The production industries have no way been left behind as they are producing commodities to suit the market niche so as help deal with the case of shortage in the market that can see the nation experiencing economic crisis and due to commodity rationing in terms of supply. The economic gaps created by the immigrants are beneficial to the countrys economy as they create more space for the supply and chain departments to create room for the inventory (Bak-Klimek et al, 2015).The hiding costs are reduced and thus the movement of goods to the market is easy and much cheaper. The immigrants create more room for production industries thereby creating employments in the economy. New Zealand on overall has seen 7.7% job increment in almost all sectors of the econ y that deal with the production of the basic commodities like food to mention but a few (Boubtane et a l, 2015). It is evident from the findings that immigration can bring along both negative and positive impacts to the economy depending on the direction that the national policies have taken in as far national planning goes. The national planning committee for the immigration and emerging trends of any nation and for New Zealand in particular ought to operate with the mind of the existence of emergencies. In case of emergencies, there should be a way out in the solving the problem due to the influx of the people in the nation like the case of the immigrants in New Zealand. The nation needs to put in place strategies to curb the ever increasing population in the country despite the economic gains realized so far so as to avoid overstraining of the countrys resources in the wake of meeting their needs. Recommendations and Future Research Immigration in the country due to political reasons and wars can be controlled through restrictions in order for the country to balance its citizens needs through prioritizing of their most subtle ones (Bowen et al, 2013).Economic sectors in the nation like the food production industries should be subsidized in future so as to avoid the cases of overtrading that has seen to the collapse of most of them. There is need for the economic policies to be streamlined in a manner that they respond appropriately to the influx of population and other emerging trends which come along as time progress. The future research should seek to get information from the grass root levels about the impact of inflation to the New Zealands economic parameters and at the same time have the practical feel of what takes place, so as to validate the already set findings in the current statistics. Consideration of the negative impacts to the economy should also not be left out in the next coverage. A critical fe w of the negative contributions can help the nation to make amendments where there is need for the same (Bowen et al, 2013).It is also very important for the national budget of the nation to allow room for adjustment for cases of immigration so as to avoid future problems in the allocation of the resources to the entire public. Shortages should not be experienced and if any, then they should be recorded in small figures. References Alesina, A., Harnoss, J., Rapoport, H. (2016). What Is Advertising free essay sample

Advertising is a non-personal form of promotion that is delivered through selected media outlets that, under most circumstances, require the marketer to pay for message placement. Advertising has long been viewed as a method of mass promotion in that a single message can reach a large number of people. But, this mass promotion approach presents problems since many exposed to an advertising message may not be within the marketer’s target market, and thus, may be an inefficient use of promotional funds. However, this is changing as new advertising technologies and the emergence of new media outlets offer more options for targeted advertising. Advertising  is a form of  communication  used to encourage or  persuade  an audience (viewers, readers or listeners) to continue or take some new action. Most commonly, the desired result is to drive consumer behavior with respect to a commercial offering, although political and ideological advertising is also common. Advertising messages are usually paid for by  sponsors  and viewed via various  traditional media; including  mass media  such as  newspaper,  magazines,  television commercial,  radio advertisement,  outdoor advertising  or  direct mail; ornew media  such as  blogs  and  websites  and  text messages. Commercial advertisers often seek to generate increased  consumption  of their  products  or  services  through branding, which involves the repetition of an image or product name in an effort to associate certain qualities with the brand in the minds of  consumers. Non-commercial  advertisers who spend money to advertise items other than a consumer product or service include political parties, interest groups, religious organizations and governmental agencies. Nonprofit organizations  may rely on free modes of  persuasion, such as apublic service announcement. Those in client servicing must therefore interact with clients, gather information, oversee research where necessary, gauge consumer attitudes and based on this, work along with the various departments of the agency to formulate the most appropriate and effective  advertising  strategy  within the specified budget. To be an effective client-servicing person, the candidate has to have a thorough knowledge of the clients business and also know his weak points so that, through advertising and communications, the gap can be minimised. An  accounts executive  who works in the client servicing department takes care of all the monitory dealings. He should know the most effective way to advertise clients product or service i. e the media and their cost effectiveness. Account executives should also have an idea about market research and target audiences. Market Research Every good ad plans, start with research. This is the department which surveys the market and analyses and studies consumer behavior about a product or service. They are involved with collection of data- information about the consumer, the market, existing competition and so on. The research studies provide basic information to the manufacturer, for planning a new product. Media planning/Research Responsibility of media planning department starts at the point when the ad is complete. Media Department  is responsible for the planning, scheduling, booking and purchase of space and time (in newspapers, magazines, radio and TV, and outdoor hoardings). The media department must therefore devise the most effective use for an advertising budget to effectively and economically transmit a campaign message to the target audience. This department consists of the following: Media Planners who decide the different media where the ads would be featured in order to get maximum viewership. Media Buyer has to negotiate to buy space in the Press, or time on electronic media at the best rates for which he has to understand the buying as well as selling trends.
